Wally and Jeanne Roderick - Experienced Caretakers

Wally and Jeanne
Your First Choice!
We are experienced homesteaders and we love gardening, raising small livestock (chickens, rabbits, and quail) and we love working around the home. In addition, we are both excellent managers of time. We are searching for property owners who have the types of property that we love but don't have the time to take care of it. They supply the property - we supply the ability and the heart! We are committed Christians and would love to work for a Christian family, but we are open to working for others. As with any close relationship, such as that involved in caretaking, both parties must feel comfortable with each other.
Granted, we are relatively new to the Caretaker field, but we have all the skills necessary to be competent, professional caretakers for your property.
Why should the Rodericks be your first choice?
Well, it depends upon what your needs are. We are the first choice for those who are looking for trustworthy and reliable caretakers. We have been married for 37 years, have raised 3 children successfully and have cared for our own homes during that same period. We have no criminal record. We have clean driving records. We don't smoke nor do we do drugs. We are not addicted to any beverage or substance. In addition to our career jobs, I have been a Bi-vocational Pastor and Jeanne a dedicated and loving wife and mother.
We are the first choice for those who need our skills. Here's a list for each of us:
Wally - 61 years of age - originally from Maryland Construction/Management/Purchasing background/Strong Customer Service Background
Strong background in residential construction in both management and hands-on ability. Strong carpenter skills that include framing, siding, roofing, hanging windows and doors, interior trim work, treated deck building, light plumbing and electrical, etc. I am comfortable reading blueprints. I have managed the construction process from breaking ground through completion of many custom homes, some over 5,000 sqft. I have been a handyman as well, doing small electrical, plumbing, painting and other odd jobs around the home. I have an above-average sales ability and excellent customer service skills having been a manager for Lowe's Home Centers for over 7 years, a partner in a construction company for 4 years, an Operations Manager for a small lumber yard for 7 years and currently serve in an Operations/Purchasing capacity for a small lumberyard in north Georgia.
My background also includes substantial experience in customer service in the retail industry (asst store manager over customer service with Lowes Home Centers).
In our most recent caretaker position in New Jersey I used a Kubota tractor with bucket and three-point hitch. Attachments were a rake and a log splitter. I used the bucket to work the compost piles as well as do finish work after snow plowing. I used a zero-turn lawn mower, various-sized chainsaws, weedeaters, handheld power brooms, snow blowers and other small equipment. I also drove a small dump truck with a snow plow to maintain a half-mile unpaved driveway. I maintained the garden area, some trails, and about 5 acres of lawn in addition to trimming shrubs, trees and maintenance on a fig garden and small orchard. I also maintained all equipment including a couple of four-wheelers. I did some minor home improvements for the owner and helped rebuild his shop after it suffered major damage during hurricane Sandy.
I am comfortable in the garden. We have used raised bed boxes for the past few years and have practiced organic farming as much as possible. We use our own compost, as available, made from our chicken and quail waste, as well as the composted garden remains from previous years.
Concerning animals and poultry, I have multiple years of experience raising, hatching, selling and processing for the freezer, chickens, quail and rabbits. I am experienced shipping live chicks as well as fertile hatching eggs across the country. I have cared for horses many, many years ago but do not have the expertise with them currently that I have with smaller livestock.
As far as maintaining budgets, I have been responsible (6+ years) for approximately $600,000.00 of inventory (buying and maintenance) for a small lumberyard in north Georgia. I also developed our household budget using a Quicken format that has helped manage our money down to the penny. I am very comfortable with budgets.
Concerning my education, I have a Bachelor's degree in Theology.
I am a writer - of sorts - and very comfortable on the computer and the internet. I am intimate with Microsoft Suite - Word, Excel and Power Point specifically. I can design simple websites and blog sites which may be of some benefit to you as a property owner.
Hobbies: I enjoy hunting and fishing, playing guitar and singing with my wife and reading. We used to play for money back in the day! Jeanne has a beautiful voice - still! I enjoy cooking, though I am not a professional. My specialty is breakfast: great home fries, bacon and eggs and fried green tomatoes.
Jeanne - 57 years of age - originally from Massachusetts - hospitality background at a full-service Spa with luxury suites for 10 years
In past years I have successfully home-schooled our 3 children. They are all grown with families of their own.
I have worked as a secretary/receptionist at the Pentagon to a small church in North West Florida. My current position is with a luxury spa in the mountains of Georgia, where I work as a receptionist, scheduling services, and get-a-ways, and greeting customers at arrival. The spa has 13 one, two and three bedroom suites. I enjoy booking the girlfriend get-a-ways and romantic get-a-ways for our visitors. Since it is their first time to our area for many, they rely on us to give them information and directions to attractions and restaurants, as well as put them at ease! I am very comfortable on the computer with POS programs as well as Word and Quicken.
I have worked at the spa full and part time. At present, I work part time in order to have time for picking and canning the produce from our garden. I love raising our own (organic) produce and preserving as much as possible. I love to make fresh homemade bread and as much food as possible from scratch.
With the help of my husband, I have created a line of completely natural soap, lotions and soy candles called Mountain Girl Naturals. I have quite a following for the soap!
Hobbies: sewing, knitting, crocheting, singing, reading, gardening, creating soaps and lotions.
What type of property would we love to manage?
We would love to be on a farm in the country or a beach estate that incorporated gardening in its operation or a country inn. We love learning about organic gardening and raising poultry and other farm animals.
What financial arrangement do we desire?
We will need a living salary and we will need you to provide separate quarters for us. Salary requirements will be based upon the job description.
